Our Story

Born from Faith in the Ashes of Kitale

"He gives beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning…" — Isaiah 61:3

Out of the Ashes was founded in 2011 in Kitale by missionaries Lawrence Carruthers and Francine Lebel Carruthers. What began as a response to heartbreak — 32 vulnerable children with nowhere to go — became a movement of grace.

From a single children's home, we have grown into a multi-faceted ministry touching thousands of lives: free medical clinics, village outreaches, prison ministry, and educational sponsorships that have carried children all the way to university.
